Travel information

BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Bochum Central Station is served at frequent intervals by ICE, IC, and EC trains (tickets: Deutsche Bahn),

as well as by regional and local trains (ticket: VRR C, available from ticket machines at the airport

and stations or via the VRR app: eezy-nrw).

From there, you can easily reach us via the U-Bahn line U35 (CampusLine)

directly to Ruhr University Bochum (RUB), which has its own stop named after it.

The U 35 (towards Bochum-Hustadt) runs every five minutes and takes only ten minutes

to reach the university. (Ticket within Bochum: VRR A or via the VRR app: eezy.nrw)

BY CAR

Motorists can also easily reach RUB via Germany’s extensive motorway network.

The quickest route is via the Bochum/Witten motorway junction, where the

A43 and A44 motorways meet. Simply take the Bochum-Querenburg exit, follow the signs for

‘Ruhr-Universität’, and then the electronic directional signs.

Please note that roadworks are currently taking place in the Bochum area,

so you should allow more time than usual.

BY PLANE

Three major airports — Frankfurt, Cologne/Bonn, and Düsseldorf — are within

a reasonable distance of Bochum. Düsseldorf Airport is the closest and most easily accessible.

There are direct connections between the airport and Bochum's main train station up to eight times per hour, and the journey only takes around half an hour.

From Frankfurt Airport, you can reach Bochum in two hours by Intercity Express Train (ICE).

Going out

If you’re looking for something to do in Bochum in the evening, we recommend the
Bermuda Triangle.

Please be aware that Februrary 4th—8th is high season of Karneval.

If you’re arriving via Düsseldorf Airport, you may come across people in fancy dress in high
spirits who will greet you with “Helau”.
Sometimes there are also “Bützchen”, a kiss on the cheek involved.
Please bear this in mind.
